My love affair with tea began a long time ago. For someone who didn’t drink any coffee until my mid- thirties, tea was always considered the beverage of choice. I appreciated its gentle effects and as a herbalist, loved the ritual of picking and drying herbs, artfully pairing them together & match making them on the basis of their individual temperaments. This for me, is the secret of the craft. The pleasure is extended with the delight of brewing and presenting the individual creations in beautiful, often opulent tea-ware.
Tea for me is a wonderful opportunity to invite nature, in all its beauty, strength & joy into my body. It is also the ultimate act of selfcare. The healing properties of tea are plentiful and worth taking pleasure in… one tea cup at a time.
For those seeking a simple therapeutic tea to drink during the day to calm the nerves, settle the digestion and gently reduce patterns of liver stagnation ‘Qi stagnation’ which causes bloating, discomfort or pain under the ribs and feelings of irritability then Himalayan Sunrise is your tea.
Benefits of the main herbs at a glance
Spearmint – valued for centuries as an excellent digestive; It stimulates the salivary glands, increases gastric secretions and eases indigestion and gas pain.
Peppermint – cool and acrid; eases nausea and heartburn, calms stomach spasms and cramps and because of its action on the gastric lining, actually shortens the amount of time food spends in the stomach. This herb is traditionally used to cleanse and strengthen the entire body including the heart muscle. Because of its stimulating properties, peppermint is a go-to remedy for chills, cold and rheumatism. It is also used to clear the nauseated feeling that often accompanies a migraine.
Fennel – warm, spicy and sweet, fennel seeds are wonderful after a meal as they treat digestive weakness and together with the other ingredients in this formula make this tea excellent for children and the elderly.
Lemon Myrtle – In recent years this native Australian herb has shown to produce a variety of health benefits to rival any well-known ‘superfood’. Rich in calcium and magnesium, it helps to calm, relax and ease the nerves. It also has antibacterial properties to soothe a sore throat and clear a congested chest!
Liquorice – one of the most ancient medicinals in the Chinese pharmacopedia. It has a long history of successful use in the treatment of peptic, gastric and duodenal ulcers. It has been established that liquorice is: anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, antivirus, antifungal, anticonvulsive and immunostimulatory.
The name, ‘Himalayan Sunrise’ is inspired by the nature of the ingredients and their therapeutic effect, which I liken to a feeling of expansiveness. Imagine climbing to the tops of the Himalayas and standing in awe of the scenery surrounding you. This formula is designed to evoke feelings of peace and bliss.
I invite you to slow down, relax and surrender to the present moment.
